About Chimen

Originally developed as an artistic installation, Chimen have been created by husband and wife team, Jonathan and Samantha Bishop.

Jonathan, a professional artist, is the artistic influence behind Chimen. Samantha, whose expertise lies in technology and interactive media, is responsible for the business operations of Chimen.

The Chimen were first created by Jonathan 7 years ago when he was creating and exhibiting large magnetic art installations. After showing these magnets to the public, it became apparent that children were fascinated with their simplicity and colour and with the fun they bring.

After researching the collectable toy market and industry, Jonathan and Samantha realised the market potential for an imaginative children’s toy that is both a source of amusement for children and also encourages colour and shape recognition and storytelling. They identified significant demand not for just another ‘plastic toy’ but for something for that is visually appealing to both parents and children and which incorporates a storytelling element.

In January 2009 Chimen Ltd was formed and Jonathan and Samantha set about developing the designs of the Chimen characters and backgrounds. Several tests were conducted by a product development company with children and parents. Feedback was very positive with 96% of the parents finding Chimen to be a beneficial learning tool for their children as well as promoting a sense of community and fun. The parents also noted the artistic merit of the products and 100% of the parents said they would purchase Chimen for their children.

To all of you, from all of us at The Chimen Store - Thank you
